FutureType is an organic-electronic live band led by composer/producer Miles Felix, singer-artist Chris Bruffee, and rapper DJC. These longtime friends — natives of Los Angeles, Brooklyn, and Vermont — were inspired to create a unique electro-soul funk-fusion sound in the basement studios of Brooklyn. Assembling a crew of multi-talented NYC-based musicians, they bridge the gap between dance-inducing DJ-Electronica and the energy of a live band with a full horn section.
FutureType’s potent sound comes from driving beats laid down by live drums; sharp horn lines; funktastic guitar; soulful vocals; and crisp hip hop verses. In mid-2016 they released their debut EP which received international airplay including spins on Radio Nova (Paris), KCRW (Los Angles), Shine FM (London), CIUT (Toronto) & WBAI (New York). The band also logged serious miles performing at wild dance parties all over New York City, Long Island, and Philadelphia. Now their second EP release showcases a progression of the band’s fresh yet maturing electro-soul sound.
Band leader Miles Felix music credits run deep with his work producing tracks for the likes of Method Man, Ty Dolla $ign, Melanie Fiona, Big Boi, Talib Kweli and scoring commercial work for Nike, Google, Cartier, and Vice-TV. FutureType’s musicians aren’t too shabby either having performed with, opened for, and recorded with such artists as Snoop Dogg, Drake, Juvenile, Lil Wayne, GURU’s Jazzamataz, Femi Kuti, Capital Cities, Lee Scratch Perry, Stephen Marley, Medeski Martin & Wood, Antibalas, and more.
FutureType is Miles Felix, keyboard/talkbox, singer Chris Bruffee, MC & saxophonist Daniel J Cohn, guitarist J. Cleary, trombonist Eli Chalmer, trumpeter Rachel Therrien, and drummer Kevin Raczka. FutureType’s new EP, Darktime, will be released on June 28th, 2019 on NuFunk Records worldwide.
