THE UNISON HOLIDAY SCHMOOZEFEST RAISES $35,000 FOR CANADIAN MUSIC WORKERS IN CRISIS
TORONTO, December 14, 2017 — Its third year has firmly established the Unison Holiday Schmoozefest as the must-attend holiday party and brought together hundreds of music industry professionals — and dear friends — for a night of charity and celebration. Held this year on Monday, December 11th at the Spice Route Asian Bistro & Bar, the Unison Holiday Schmoozefest raised $35,000.
Proceeds from the event benefit the Unison Benevolent Fund and help to ensure that it’s free, professional counselling hotline and assistance programs continue to be available for any music industry professional in a time of crisis.
“We are thrilled with the results of the 2017 Holiday Schmoozefest,” said Derrick Ross, Chair of the Unison Board of Directors. “The funds raised have a deep impact from coast to coast. With dozens of applicants seeking support each month, this helps to make certain that there are resources available for every member of the music industry if they are in need of help. I want to credit the amazing work of my fellow board member Bernie Breen and Unison Development Manager Amanda Power for making the event such a success! Our thanks also goes out to all of the generous sponsors, and to everyone who donated, volunteered or just came out and shamelessly schmoozed.”
Before the party began, the Unison Board of Directors took a moment to offer their appreciation for the contributions of one of the organisation’s founding board members, Jim Norris (Norris-Whitney Communications). Jim has been a champion of Unison since it’s inception in 2011, and a vital part of its development and the success of events like the Unison Holiday Schmoozefest.
The Board also recognized the staff of Re:Sound for their tremendous donation of time and talent, and for choosing Unison as the charity partner at their annual benefit concert, Re:Wind, in 2016 and 2017.
